I have developed a comprehensive and adaptable safeguarding policy which, after some straightforward tailoring from you, is ready to use as your own policy straight away. It comes with explanatory notes and guidance, plus an hour of my time to ask any questions you may have about it.
Why have I developed this?
There is very little guidance out there on how to write a safeguarding policy, and I am yet to find an online template which includes everything it should. These omissions have always concerned me; ultimately it's not keeping people safe. In my experience the templates that do exist are incomplete, inconsistent, have conflicting information, and can be overly wordy and confusing. This is the last thing you need when setting up an organisation or bringing your existing policy up to scratch!
So what makes my policy unique?
- Comes with in depth explanatory notes, suggestions and guidance so you can easily and quickly adapt it to your organisation
- Outlines best practice and procedures, so acts as a training document for you to implement the policy on a practical level
- Contains insights and information about other policies and documents you may need
- Includes points that are so often missed in safeguarding policies, for example notes of interest and low-level concerns
- Encourages multi-agency working so nothing slips through the net
- Hyperlinks to useful websites and legislation
- Clear, concise and easy to understand format
- Up to date and relevant
- Contents page
- Appendices - definitions of abuse and useful numbers
- Covers your back in all situations and gives your people a clear framework to work within
- Includes an hour of support time from me, if you have any questions on how to adapt it to your organisation
- Different versions for charity and CIC/business/other
- Format is in Microsoft Word and uses the comments feature to provide guidance.
My hope is that this will take the headache out of producing what is such a crucial working document. All robust safeguarding procedures start with a strong policy, and the clear message that sends out.

N.B. this policy provides a detailed framework for your own policy and best internal practice, but it will require a little time from you to read it through carefully and adapt it to your organisation, services and needs. No responsibility can be taken by Emily Oliver Consultancy if an organisation does not do this, nor if they don't use their own procedures and common sense in situations relating to safeguarding.
